Prayer to Sri Natarajar

O Nataraja, King of the Cosmic Stage, O Siva! All these worlds and the lives therein are all Yours! Lord, in ecstasy, I witness Your dance and in its dynamics the cause of universe and all its manifestations. In the trinity of Your eyes are the three phases of time. Adorned with tufts of hair locks, Your head contains the fleeting river Ganges, signifying the abundant weal and wealth that You shower. The crescent Moon in these tufts, bestows the material pleasures; the phasing of Moon implies that You are the controller of Time; By crowing the waxing moon with all its faults, Your generosity to elevate all souls, irrespective of their illusive ignorance is evident.

The Makara Kundala on the right ear denotes masculinity and the Tatanka on left ear lobe marks the divine feminine beauty, a poignant illustration of equality of gender. The serpent creeping around Your body is Kundalini, the innate power of any being. The holy thread hangs from the left shoulder to the underneath of right arm, symbolises the Purity of Being. By holding the poison in Your neck, You show mercy and unbounded compassion. Your right arm raised above, carries the drum, the sound of which is the source of creation of the whole universe. The lower right hand is the blessing hand and it symbolises the existence. The raised left hand carries the fire which is the source of energy in the nature that consummates the nature itself in the end cycle. The lower left hand points to the divine feet as the refuge to all. Your right foot firmly staying on the ground, asserts Your omnipresence. The demon underneath the firm right foot represents the illusive nature of the material existence and the ignorance. Your divine feet is the escape to wisdom. The left leg is raised from the ground as a dance posture. This is the all bestowing foot.

You are the dancer who is the cause of all changes. Please bless me with the divine vision of Your dance, for in love, I have set my mind-heart as Your stage. By removing the unreal worries of the illusionary world and the karmic bonds, let me be with You! I worship you, my Lord!

The Supreme God who controls the cosmos is performing the cosmic dance, thereby showing the basis of all Vedas! O Mother Sivakami! Only to illustrate the virtue of partnership and the purpose of team work, as the Lord shows the Universe through His dance, You show the core of its purpose, by standing tall! You are the purest, Uma, my Mother!
