எங்கே என் குரு
விநாயகர் துதி
விநாயகா சிந்தையுள் உழுது விளங்குமிச் சந்தமும் எழுது!
குணாதயா உந்தனைத் தொழுது குருவெனக் கந்தனின் விழுது
வினாயிலா முந்தைய பழுது விழுந்திடச் தந்தருட் பொழுது
கணாதரா வந்தனம் நினது கருணையிற் சிந்திடும் அமுது!

நிலையாது இதுவெனக் காட்டி நிலைஎது அதனையுட் கூட்டி
அலையாது இருவெனப் பூட்டி அசையாத சிவனையுட் சூட்டிக்
கலையாத மதியுரம் தீட்டிக் கைவல்ய பரநிலை ஈட்டி
குலையாத மனநலங் காட்டும் குருவடி தேடி னேனே!
To weed out the ephemeral, to know the eternal
To calm the wandering mind, to place the unmoving Shiva to reign
To sharpen the resolute intellect, to secure the redemption absolute,
To purify the tender heart, the Guru’s divine feet, I beseech!

உருப்படும் உடலாற் சென்று உயிரினைக் கடனாய்க் கொண்டு
கருப்படும் கெடுவாய் கொன்று கதியுறும் கலனாய் நின்று
இருப்பது இறவா தொன்று இதுவென எதுவாய் இன்று
குருத்தவிழ்க் கதிராம் ஞானக் குருவடி தேடி னேனே!
As bodies form to decay; the life a mere debt to pay
To shut the wombs of scar, ajar; to sail away safely afar
To show today, the eternal ‘I’ for the truth that I never die
The light all blossoms reach, the Guru’s divine feet, I beseech!

வானற்றுப் போனால் என்ன வடிவற்றுப் போகும் ஞாலம்!
தானற்றுப் போனால் என்ன தனித்துவம் இல்லா தாகும்!
நானற்ற தெல்லாம் தள்ள நலிவின்றி எல்லாம் காணும்!
கூனற்ற போதம் வேண்டிக் குருவடி தேடி னேனே!
Without the void of space, the world has no Form to trace!
Without the ‘I’, once forgone, the ipseity hath no more a place!
To discard the non-self from the Self, to know the divine Grace
To attain the limitless knowledge – the Guru’s divine feet, I beseech!

தீமுக னான தேவோ திருமக ளோடு மாலோ
நாமக ளாளின் கோவோ நற்குரு வடிவு யாதோ
பூமக னான காஞ்சி புகலரு ணாச் சலத்து
கோமக னான எந்தை குருவடி தேடினேனே!
Is the fiery Rudra, or Hari with the escort Shri
Is the Lord of Vani, in what form is my teacher
In the best of earth, Kanchi and the haven Thiruvannamalai
Is the preceptor, my Lord, the Guru’s divine feet, I beseech!

நாடகம் போல வாழ்வு! நடிப்பதே பிறப்ப தானால்
பூடகம் எதற்கு எந்தன் பூரணத் துவத்தைக் காட்ட
ஊடகந் தேவை யில்லை! உனதுளே நானே என்று
கூடவே இருந்து காக்கும் குருவடி தேடி னேனே!
If life is a drama, then to be born is to act!
Why then the vain cover of nescience, curtaining my omniscience!
May there be no medium, Reveal direct that I am in Thine
Succor forever by near, the Guru’s divine feet, I beseech!

தீதற நல்ல னாக்கித் திருமறை வல்ல னாக்கி
வாதற வுள்ள நோக்கில் வருவன வெல்வ னாக்கி
மூதறத் துய்ய னாக்கி முற்றிலாச் செல்வ னாக்கிக்
கோதற மாற்று கின்ற குருவடி தேடி னேனே!
To be empowered by virtues, to be saintly by scripture
To indwell lest ego, to face-up what may come and win,
To be in the Presence, forever, to be pristine and rich,
May I be reformed, for which the divine feet of Guru, I beseech!

கண்ணிலே தீட்சை என்பார் கரத்திலே கால் பதித்த
மண்ணிலே விளையும் என்பார் மறைமுனி யாக என்பார்
என்னுளே ஏதோ குற்றம்! இருப்பினும் பொறுப்பு உந்தன்
தண்ணுரு தயவுற் காக்கும் குருவடி தேடி னேனே!
Guru’s grace by His sight upon us; by the gesture of hands; the feet
The soil He treads, and in their form as Sages, thus the learned tweet!
Perhaps my blemish the curse, I miss! Yet the onus is all Yours
The cool merciful beatitude, the divine feet of Guru, I beseech!

மாற்றமி லாதது காட்ட மாறுவ தாவும் காட்டி
தேற்றவு ளானது பாராய் தேஜோ மயம்நீ என்று
சாற்றுவ னாகநீ வாராய் சரணா கதியென நானே
கூற்றுவன் நாரற நீக்கும் குருவடி தேடி னேனே (8)
The unchanging is learnt by learning all changes
The unknowable eternal is in you, That Thou Art
To state thus, May You come, as I offer my surrender!
To totally cut the rope of death, the Guru’s divine feet, I beseech!

உலகினி லுள்ள தெல்லாம் உள்ளதா என்று ஆய
விலகினக் கள்ள மெல்லாம் வெறுமுரு என்று ஆகப்
பலவிதஞ் செய்யும் வல்லன் பரசிவன் என்னு ளூடிக்
குலவிடப் பெய்யும் மாரி குருவடி தேடி னேனே!
The world of things that I held long in search of its truth
Left elusively, It is only a form that the moments set forth,
The eternal Sivam weaving the magic of diversity is in my effulgence
To rain the shower of bliss and indulge, the divine feet of Guru, I beseech!
(10. கர்ம யோகம்)
படித்திரு என்பார், என்றும் பணிந்திரு என்பார், வேலை
முடித்திடு என்பார், செய்த முயற்சியின் பயனை எல்லாம்
விடுத்திடு என்பார், உண்டு விடுதலை என்பார், இன்பம்
கொடுத்திட வேண்டும் என்றென் குருவடி தேடி னேனே!
(10. Karma Yoga)
Learned say ‘Do learn’ and upon learning to stay demure
To do all tasks as due, yet all the resulting glory and hue
Give-up, they say, by which – One is free, with glee bewitched
For my good, to come and preach, the Guru’s divine feet I beseech!
(11. பக்தி)
பாருல கெல்லாந் தந்து படைத்தருள் செய்யுந் தெய்வம்
வேறுள என்பார் எங்கும் விரிந்தது என்பார் நம்முள்
பேருணர் வான தென்பார் பிணையறத் தொழுவார் பாதை
கூறுவன் வேண்டி எந்தன் குருவடி வேண்டி னேனே!
(11. Devotion)
Giving many worlds to live and protecting all, the God
Where else but in all omnipresent as the Seers say, within us
As the effulgence of consciousness. May the path to be free and pray
Be taught by my Guru, whose divine feet, I beseech!
(12 குற்றப் பார்வை விலக்கல்)
கானலில் நீரைக் கண்டு கயிற்றினில் பாம்பைக் கண்டு
ஞானமி லானாய்க் கண்டு நனவிலும் கனவைக் கண்டு
கோணலி லூரைக் கண்டு குணங்குறை யாகக் கொண்டு
கூனலில் வீழா தேற்கும் குருவடி தேடி னேனே!
(12 Giving up the erroneous view)
Perceiving water in a mirage, fearing at a snake in a rope
With inept knowledge, a fake, dreaming even while awake,
Skewed view of the world filtered, by the tainted notions littered
Such a crooked fall, may I not fall, the divine feet of Guru, I beseech!
(13 கூரிய விவேகம்)
புகுத்திய அறிவைத் தீட்டி புத்தியிற் திடமுங் கூட்டி
வகுத்தெது நலமென் றீட்டி வல்லநல் லறமுங் காட்டிப்
பகுத்தறிந் தழிவென் றோட்டிப் பரகதி அறிவை ஈட்டும்
*குகுத்திரு விருளிற் சோதி குருவடி தேடி னேனே!
(13. Discerning Intellect: Viveka)
Polishing the endowed senses, making the intellect resolute,
Discerning the good from the bad, the right from the wrong
Away from the ephemeral and to seek the eternal, the supreme truth
To dispel the darkness of no-moon night, the divine feet of Guru, I beseech!
(14. பற்றின்மை எனும் வைராக்கியம்)
பற்றவி டானாய் அற்பப் பாசமி லானாய் இன்பச்
சுற்றமு ளானாய் அன்பிற் சுமைகளி லானாய் எந்தன்
உற்றவி தானந் தன்னுள் உருகடன் செய்து வாழும்
குற்றமி லானாய்ச் செய்யும் குருவடி தேடி னேனே!
(14. Engagement without entanglement : Variragya)
Guarding against attachments and ridding the lowly moss that entangles
Being happy with all, engaged with no laden weights that strangle
Within the righteous bounds, performing the duties as sound
A pious, faultless life, the guiding divine feet of Guru, I beseech!
(15. பக்குவந்தரும் ஆறு நற்குணம்)
புலந்தரு உணவைக் கட்டி புத்தியைத் திடப்ப டுத்தி
அலந்தறு மனதைக் கட்டி அறக்கடன் மற்றும் பற்றி
நிலந்தரு பொறுமை கற்று நேர்த்துணர் உறுதி பெற்று
குலந்தருங் குறியைப் பற்றக் குருவடி தேடினேனே!
(15.Six qualities for perfection)
Regulating the sensory feeds, with the resolute intellect to seed
The vacillating mind that heeds, giving-up all but the virtuous need
Learning patience of the Earth, the intense trust for truth to unearth,
And the steadfast-focus to reach, the divine feet of Guru, I beseech!
(16. விடுதலை விழையல்)
பாடுபட் டடைந்த காயம் பட்டென்று உடைவ தாலும்
சூடுபட் டுணர்ந்த தாலும் சூத்திரம் உரைப்ப தாலும்
வீடுபெற் றுய்ய நோக்கி விடுபடும் ஞான மேற்றக்
கூடுவிட் டாவி போமுன் குருவடி தேடி னேனே!
(16. Yearning for Liberation)
Rarely acquired human body yet its breakage now I know,
As the burning experiences teach and the profound scriptures preach
May I seek the eternal home of perfection, its knowledge of liberation,
Before I leave the body, for this glory, the divine feet of Guru, I beseech!
(17. இயற்கையின் தர்மம்)
கதிரவன் போலச் சேவை கலைமதி போலத் தேயம்
நதிகடல் போலத் தானம் நந்நிலம் போலச் சாந்தம்
உதிகனல் போலத் தூயம் உழவினைப் போலத் தியாகம்
குதிமனம் ஆளச் செய்யும் குருவடி தேடி னேனே!
(17. Nature’s Dharma)
Like the nourishing Sun to serve, as the Moon’s light to heal
The streams and Sea to give, the tolerant earth to forgive
As the rising-flame in honor, like a former, the dutiful donor
Such virtues¸ the wavy mind to reach, the divine feet of Guru, I beseech!
(18. இயற்கையின் தர்மம்)
கூடுவிட் டூட்டும் குருவி கூவியே உண்ணும் காகம்
காடுமுட் பூக்குள் செல்வம் கார்முகிற் கடலும் வள்ளல்
பாடுபட் டுழைப்பார் பாதை பாரறப் பாடம் என்று
கோடுயிட் டூட்டும் எந்தை குருவடி தேடி னேனே!
(18. Nature’s Dharma)
Birds nest and feed their chicks, Ravens call others to feast!
Forests bloom, their riches shine, Sea darkens the cloud to rain!
Diligent Work as the Course to tread, Know this righteous guiding thread!
That virtuous line, my Lord, to reach, the divine feet of Guru, I beseech!
(19. ஆத்ம ஞானப்பாடம்)
உருப்பட மாட்டா யெனினும் உருப்படும் உண்மை தந்தும்
அகப்பட மாட்டா யெனினும் அகப்படும் நன்மை தந்தும்
தகத்தடப் பாடம் வேண்டும் தத்துவம் அஸியாம் ஞானம்
குகப்பட வரமயில் வேலன் குருவடி தேடி னேனே!
(19. Self Realization)
“Illimitable is the formless you! To formulate That Which is true
The numinous is beyond your hold, yet within you as the bliss unfold”
Thus am told, the lesson is sought; the gnosis from the ‘That Thou Art’!
Snake and Peacock, O Guga, You teach, the divine feet of Guru, I beseech!
(20. சிஷ்டாசாரத்தை அடைவேன்)
நாடிய தடைய நானும் நல்மனந் தூய்மை யாக்கி
மூடிய அறிவில் மேன்மை முக்குணஞ் சீர்மை யாக்கி
தேடிய நிறைவைத் தெய்வத் திருவரு ளாலே பெற்று
கூடிய விரைவில் உய்யக் குருவடி தேடி னேனே!
(20. Attaining Qualities of Disciple)
For the virtuous goals sought, may I gain the purity of heart!
May the skewed-intellect be open and gleam, the tri-attributes turn sublime!
May the devotion be pure and lasting, for the divinity to grant all am asking!
For the supreme freedom, in speed I reach, the divine feet of Guru, I beseech!

அருவாய் உருவாய் அணுவாய் விரிவாய்
திருவாய் புவனந் திகழ்வா யழகாய்
விழியாய் நின்று விழியால் அறியா
மொழியாய் நின்று மொழியால் உணரா
புலனாய் நின்று புலனால் அடையா
புவியாய் நின்று புவனம் அளந்த
மோனப் பொருளே முனைவோர்க் கருளும்
ஞானச் சுடரே ஞாலத் தெளிவே
சைவம் வைணவ சமணம் பெளத்தம்
வையம் விரிந்த கிறித்தவம் இஸ்லாம்
மாயா தீதம் மலையோர் மந்திரம்
சாயா வேதம் சாங்கியம் தர்க்கம்
இயற்கை வணக்கம் இல்லா நாத்திகம்
பயிற்சி யாளர் பகுத்தறி வாதம்
தத்தம் வழியில் உத்தமர் யாரும்
நித்தம் நடக்கும் நெடுவழி ஓர்வழி
விக்ன விநாயகன் வேலன் காலன்
தட்சிணா மூர்த்தி தாரகன் மாலன்
கலைமகள் திருமகள் கயிலை மலைமகள்
பலவகை யான பக்தியும் ஓர்வழி
கடமையைச் செய்பலன் இறையரு ளென்ற
கர்ம யோகக் கலிநெறி ஓர்வழி
சயநல மில்லாப் பொதுநல நோக்கால்
பவபய மில்லாப் பாதையும் ஓர்வழி
மூச்சை அடக்கி முக்குணந் தவிர்த்து
பேச்சைக் குறைத்த பெருவழி யோகம்
வேதப் பொதுமறை சாரப் பொருளறி
வோதப் பயன்தரு ஞானமும் ஓர்வழி
எப்படி எங்கே எவ்வழி மூலம்
தப்படி மாயத் தடைகள் அகற்றி
பரமா னந்தப் பரவெளி காணுந்
திரமாய் ஞானத் திருநெறி காட்ட
எதிரில் தெரியும் எதிலும் விளங்கும்
புதிரில் புதிரே புரியாப் பொருளே
வித்தே வித்தில் விதைத்திடு வேளோன்
முத்தே முத்தின் முழமதிச் சுடரே
அன்னப் பிராண அருமன ஞானப்
பின்னந் திறந்து பேரா னந்தக்
கோசங் கடந்து கொலுவிருப் பதையே
பேசக் கேட்டுப் பேச்சறு பட்டு
கடந்து உள்ளே கலந்தே இருக்கும்
கடவுள் யாதெனுங் காட்சியைத் தந்து
நானே ஆன்மா நானே தெய்வம்
நானே அகன்ற சச்சிதா னந்தம்
நானே பிரம்மம் நானே பெருவெளி
நானே நீயெனும் நடைமுறை யறிய
அருள்வா யுனையே அடியேன் பணிவேன்

In the forms rare and in the formless
as the near minuscule or the remote expanse
You are the beatitude, all pervading grace!
You are – In the eyes, yet unseen by the eyes,
In the words, yet unknown by the words,
In the senses, yet untouched by the senses;
You are the world, transcending all its fold,
The extract of serenity, blessing in divinity,
You are the blissful wisdom, The elixir of knowledge eternal!
In many paths such as Saivism or Vaishanavam,
Jainism or Buddhism, Wide spread Christianity or Islam,
Mysticism or the magical rituals, Majestic Vedic methods and Rites
Sankhyam or such theories rational, Nature-worship, negating Atheism,
Reductionists and thus many more, Seekers seek You, To see this one way!
Another way is to adore You simply, In whatever forms of sacred imagery!
Ganesan, Velan, Kalaan, Dhakshinamurthy, Sakthi and Ambal
Devotion in perfect harmony!
By the Righteous duties, Unattached to its fruits
as Karma-Yoga, yet another way!
Selfless motives in serving other Pledging the life and all its deeds
For common welfare is yet another way!
Controlled breathing, stilling the mind of inert qualities,
Silent in thoughts in the ways of Yoga , Indeed another way!
By listening, reciting, feeling and contemplating
on the Elixir of Vedanta is yet another way!
How, where and through which way, do I sway,
To keep the misdeeds and the darkness away,
To rid of my follies? How am I to know?
In the vastness of space, how am to search with efficiency,
To witness the eternal wisdom?
You are in front, in everything!
Mystic in the mystics, the incomprehensible elite
You are the Seed, seeding within the Seed,
Holder of the holy spear,
Pearl and the moon-like shine of the pearl are You;
Crossing beyond the five layers of this bodily abode,
Physical, Respirational, Mental, Intellectual
And the Blissful sheaths – You are seated within me!
That glorious seating is what is spoken (by the great seers);
By hearing such speech, I am speechless!
To enlighten me with the truth That God is
the One, within, with all
Pure and Single yet pervading all!
I am that Atma, I am the God,
I am the truth, bliss and eternal,
I am the Brahmam, I am the Space, I am You,
To realize this basic truth,
May You benign grace bless me, as I surrender to You!
Come as my Teacher, Muruga, the holder of the holy spear!
